More Info on Wed. Night Shooting on Arch Street

at Arch and Airy streets is open for business today after a still-unexplained violent incident last night that left one man in the hospital with a gunshot wound, and a second in police custody.

The victim has been identified as shop employee Barry Cornish. Cornish was flown by medevac to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where hospital officials say he is currently in fair condition.

According to reports from the , another employee of the shop, Albert T. Dudley, Jr., is in custody in relation to the incident. Dudley reportedly told police that it was his gun that discharged, but accounts of the incident are conflicting. Earlier reports of a patron being involved in the shooting are incorrect.

"The investigation is still ongoing," said Norristown Police Chief Russell Bono. "There are conflicting stories between the victim and the alleged actor, who we have in custody."

Police and witnesses at the scene say that an argument between the two employees that turned physical, and, according to police, the fight led to a single gunshot being fired by Dudley.

Police and emergency medical personell were called to and, once on the scene, encountered Dudley who admitted to police that his gun had discharged. He was also found to have active warrants and was taken into custody.

Dudley faces charges including two counts each of aggravated and simple assault, recklessly endandering another person and possession of a weapon. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 2 before Judge Margaret A. Hunsicker.

According to The Times Herald, Dudley is being held at Montgomery County Correctional Facility on $25,000 bail.
