New East Norriton Hospital Aiming For Eco-Friendly LEED Certification

According to Philadelphia Magazine, the new being built in East Norriton is on track for LEED certification.

Slated to open in September of 2012, the 146-bed hospital is incorporating eco-friendly touches like using recycled building materials, installing bike racks to encourage bicycle commuting and filling the site’s 84 acres with indigenous plants that won’t need a complex water irrigation system. The hospital is hoping to earn a silver designation from the U.S. Green Building Council.

“It’s great when a project allows you to do the right thing and has very significant business advantages,” Richard Montalbano, vice president of development for Einstein told the magazine. “In this case, if we conserve our resources, we pay less for things like electricity and water. So our bill goes down, while minimizing our impact on the environment.”
