New Legislation Could Mean Funds for Norristown Schools

According to NewsWorks.org, new legislation proposed by state representative Eugene DePasquale (D-95th Dist.) would provide $30 million in grants for Pennsylvania's neediest schools.

A total of 18 school districts, including Norristown, could benefit from the proposed Priority Assistance Grant for Education (PAGE) that DePasquale says could be funded from proposed Marcellus Shale impact fees.

"We need that revenue stream," DePasquale told NewsWorks. "I mean, if not, you're going to be looking at cuts in other programs."

School districts receiving funds through PAGE would be required to use the money for reducing class sizes, tutoring services, creating full-day kindergarten programs, parental-involvement programs and related services.
