The public is invited to meet the borough's new police chief at Dunkin' Donuts in downtown Norristown.

NORRISTOWN —The public is invited to meet Police Chief Derrick E. Wood Friday morning from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. for “Coffee with a Cop” at Dunkin’ Donuts, 151 W. Main St.

There is no agenda or speeches, just a chance to get to know officers in the neighborhood.

"Coffee with a Cop" provides an opportunity for police officers to interact with the citizens they serve each day.

The nonprofit organization was launched in 2011 in Hawthorne, Calif.

Borough Council appointed Wood as chief of police of police at a meeting on Dec. 21.

The 3.6-mile borough is the county seat of Montgomery County, and has a population of 34,185 residents.

Wood is a former deputy commissioner of the Philadelphia police department. He graduated from the FBI National Academy and has 23 years of law enforcement experience.

Wood has a masters degree and bachelor of science degree from Holy Family University, Philadelphia.
