Norristown's Paul Ginyard Dies at 60

Paul Douglas Ginyard, lifelong Norristown resident and community activist, died Saturday, March 24, in Montgomery Hospital from complications of a recent illness.

The 60-year-old Ginyard was the son of the late John H. and Mary Jane (Lewis) Ginyard. He attended school in the Norristown Area School District and graduated from Norristown Area High School in 1970 and attended St. Martin College in Olympia, Washington. He worked for the school district as a special education teacher for 30 years.

Ginyard was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Norristown, where he sang in the Children's, Junior and Sanctuary choirs nd taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. He was also a member of the Norristown N.A.A.C.P. and Chairman of the Education Committee was the North End Coordinator for Town Watch. He also worked closely with the Weed and Seed program both in Norristown.

In August of last year, Ginyard was presented with a proclamation for his work with the Community Policing Subcommittee and the 2001 . Ginyard and other community organizers were honored for boosting community pride and their continued effort to making the community a safer place for all residents. It was one of many honors Gunyard received throughout his life.

Surviving are a brother, Craig, and six sisters, Susan, Amy, Constance (Robert), Alma, Robin, and Kim. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Ginyard will be held Friday, March 30, at 11 a.m. at New Hope Full Gospel Baptist Church, 204 East Oak Street, Norristown. Friends are invited to call at the church from 9 to 11 a.m. He will be entombed in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Prospectville.
