Norristown Schools to Get Federal Grant Money
Our school district is set to receive $294,000 of a $20.9 million 21st Century Community Learning Challenge Grant.

According to philly.com, the Norristown Area School District is set to receive $294,000 from a federal 21st Century Community Learning Challenge Grant.
In total, 57 learning institutions across the state will be receiving funds from the $20.9 million grant pool established under the No Child Left Behind Act in 2001. Pennsylvania Secretary of Education Ron Tomalis told philly.com that the money will pay for educational services in high-poverty and low-performing schools.
"The community learning centers which applied for funding were required to provide students with a variety of enrichment opportunities that they might not receive at school or at home," Tomalis told philly.com. That includes academic, and cultural activities for children, as well as services to the families of participating students."
According to the report, 19 community-based organizations, 17 school districts, 10 charter schools, five intermediate units, three institutes of higher education, and three faith-based organizations are receiving federal funding.
