Norristown Woman Arrested In Overturned Car Incident on Sterigere Street

Kenyatta Brewer, 21, is in custody after she was allegedly the antagonist in an early morning car chase that resulted in one man being hospitalized.

Police and emergency personnel responded to Sterigere Street and Harding Boulevard in the area of early Monday morning for a report of a car overturned and at least one victim needing to be extracted.

According to reports from the , officers arrived on the scene shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Monday, June 4, to find a 1995 Toyota Camry overturned and resting on it's roof at the Stony Creek Bridge. The driver of the car was being extracted by Norristown firefighters coming from an unrelated call who happened upon the scene within minutes.

Officers interviewed the victim while being attended to by Plymouth Ambulance personnel. The victim told police that he had been driving with three other passengers in the area of Green and Basin streets when his ex-girlfriend, identified as 21-year-old Kenyatta Brewer, drove up in her 92 Accura Legend and side-swiped his vehicle.

Both cars reportedly stopped at the scene and the victim's three passengers exited the vehicle as Brewer exited her vehicle and approached the victim's Camry. The victim told officers he drove off attempting to flee, but Brewer returned to her vehicle and gave chase.

Brewer reportedly rammed into the back of the victim's car as they drove along and as they approached the Stony Creek Bridge going West on Sterigere Street at Elmwood Park, Brewer allegedly pulled alongside the victim and attempted to force him off the road. Brewer's vehicle reportedly pushed the victim's car into the metal barriers causing it to flip over onto its roof. Brewer then allegedly continued west on Sterigere and then south Stanbridge.

The victim was flown by medevac to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital with head, neck and back injuries.

A short time later, officers were able to locate Brewer in the area of her home on the 800 block of Smith Street, still driving the damaged Acura. They conducted a traffic stop and when Brewer identified herself, police took her into custody.

Brewer is facing multiple charges including aggravated assault, aggravated assault by motor vehicle, simple assault, reckless driving, careless driving, stalking, harassment and leaving the scene of an accident involving damage and injury. It was also determined that Brewer had an outstanding fine and cost warrant from district court.
