Norristown Woman Awarded Over $500k for Slip and Fall at Maenner-Chor
A jury awarded Lucy M. Kelley $512,000 for a fall at the Maenner-Chor Club in 2007.
According to The Times Herald, a Norristown woman was awarded $512,803.49 by a jury on Friday in a slip and fall case that left her seriously injured and in need of surgery.
Lucy Kelley was reportedly at a fundraiser at the back in August 2007 and fractured her ankle as she was exiting a side door of the club.
“She went out the door, and she lost her balance,” Frank P. Murphy, the woman’s attorney, told The Herald. “As she was stepping down, her ankle turned.”

Kelley was reportedly hospitalized for nine days and missed 21 weeks of work. She needed two metal plates and screws to repair the damage. A year later the area became infected and one of the plates had to be removed.
According to The Herald, a jury found the club negligent for a defective exit door with broken hardware and a step that violated building codes. The lawyer for the club argued that Kelley was to blame for her own injury.
