Norristown Woman Finds a Treasure in the Trash
Deveta Johnson stumbled on a photo album full of World War II-era photos of African Americans abroad and at home.
Philly.com highlighted the amazing story of a historical treasure rescued from the trash by a sharp-eyed resident right here in Norristown.
Deveta Johnson found the tattered album filled with hundreds of photos of African Americans from the 1930s and '40s, both abroad in wartime and here at home, in a pile of old grocery bags placed out for the trash. Johnson passed the book on to her mother, Valoree Nelson, who realized the value of the find and brought it to the .
"I walked there in the rain with my grandson," Nelson told Philly.com.
