The group issued a release explaining the donation as another expression of Occupy Norristown’s direct involvement in trying to help lessen the effects of national problems on regular people, the 99%, in the Norristown area.
“I want to thank the concerned residents of Norristown for their generous donations so far,” said Andres Umana, an active member of Occupy Norristown. “More donations of new, unwrapped toys will give the underprivileged children of Head Start Norristown truly happy holidays.”
According to the release, Occupy Norristown, part of the worldwide Occupy Movement, is allied to the hundreds of other Occupy groups throughout the country. They have regular rallies and teach-ins voicing their passionate feelings about national problems such as growing social and economic inequality, politicians who seem to care more about the richest 1% of the population, and rapidly increasing corporate control of all elements of our lives. Occupy Norristown is also trying to work on how these problems directly and indirectly affect people and institutions in the Norristown area.
