Penn State Alumni Plans Philly Vigil for Paterno

The local chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association is inviting everyone to join them in Love Park for a candlelight vigil.

According to a release issued by the Philadelphia Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association, the group will be holding a a candlelight vigil in honor of the late Joe Paterno from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27 at Love Park, 1599 JFK Boulevard in Philadelphia.

The alumni association says the goal of the vigil is to provide an opportunity for Penn Sate alumni, students, fans and supporters in our area to pay their respects to Paterno for his 61 years of service to the Penn State community with an event that will reflect on his life-long legacy of scholarship and community. Alumni and supporters are invited to come and share their favorite stories of Joe Paterno. Candles will be provided.

The Paterno family has requested that in lieu of flowers or gifts, donations be made in his name to the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania or Penn State-THON – The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon. Donations will be collected at the event for these two charities.
