Protestors Block Eagleville Road to Protest Montco Prison's Deal with ICE

At least three protestors were arrested yesterday for refusing to disperse after police ordered them to.

Police shut down Eagleville Road in Lower Providence for several hours in the afternoon on Thursday, June 28, while some three dozen protestors marched in front of Montgomery County Correctional Facility shouting slogans like, "No papers, no fear, immigrants are marching here!" and "Hey, Obama, don't deport my mama!" according to Philly.com.

The protestors were on hand to voice opposition to Montgomery County's arrangement with US Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) to house ICE detainees at the facility. The protest was organized by a group called DreamActivist PA, a network of undocumented youth.

According to the organizations website, three undocumented youth from Pennsylvania – Sheila Quintana, 19, Erika Guadualupe Nuñez, 21, Jose Luna, 23 – were arrested at the scene. They were reportedly charged with disorderly conduct and blocking the highway.

"They are protesting the wrong people,” Frank Custer, Communications Director for Montgomery County told The Daily Pennsylvanian. “Our decision to contract with ICE to temporarily house immigrants who are about to be deported, and are here for no more than 24 to 72 hours, in no way indicates our position on the whole immigration question."
