WTOP reported that the Social Security Administration’s findings have shown that girls names over the years are more volatile and change more easily, while male names have stayed more consistent.

Nationally, the top five boys names in 2011 included Jacob, Mason, William, Jayden and Noah.
Mason is the largest jump from a rank of number 34 in 2009 to number 2 in 2011. The bump comes after Kourtney Kardashian named her son Mason in 2010.

The name Michael has fallen to sixth place among boys names, the lowest for the name since 1948, according to the WTOP article.
On the other hand, Jacob is the top name for boys for the 12th year in a row.
Among girl names nationally, Sophia, Isabella, Emma, Olivia and Ava round out the top five names.
The name Isabella had been the top girl’s name for the past two years and has now fallen to second behind the more traditional Sophia.
In Pennsylvania, the top baby names in 2011 look a little different for boys, with Michael staying in the top five. The top boys names in the state are Michael, Jacob, Mason, Logan and Ryan.
For girl’s names, the top in the state are Isabella, Sophia, Emma, Olivia and Ava.
