KING OF PRUSSIA, PA — The Red Lobster in King of Prussia is on a new list of restaurants that could be shuttered in the popular seafood chain moves forward with a plan to help get itself out of bankruptcy.

The chain abruptly closed more than 50 restaurants in May and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy shortly thereafter due to their all-you-can-eat shrimp promotion.

The Red Lobster on 425 W. DeKalb Pike is among several dozen around the country, and three in Pennsylvania, that would close to cut costs, CNN reports.

Red Lobster’s bankruptcy was expected. Its “Ultimate Endless Shrimp” promotion last year was intended as a limited-time offer, but brought in enough new customers that the chain added it to its permanent menu in June. Customers gobbled it up with such relish that the chain reported fourth-quarter 2023 losses of $12.5 million.

According to court filings, Red Lobster has 551 U.S. restaurants, 27 restaurants in Canada and 27 franchised locations in Mexico, Japan, Ecuador and Thailand. The company said it has 36,000 employees in the U.S. and Canada.
