Residents, Council Talk New Police Chief Thursday Night

A handful of residents turned out to the first of two scheduled public meetings to gather public input on Norristown's search for a new chief of police.

According to The Times Herald, seven residents and five council members sat down Thursday night at the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library to discuss the qualities residents are looking for in a new police chief. The public meeting was the first of two scheduled events to include public input in the search process.

Some of the items discussed included a wish for more police-sponsored neighborhood meetings, a more fair and balanced approach to parking enforcement and a focus on more youth programs.

A second meeting s planned for Thursday, March 14 at 7 p.m. at the Montgomery County Human Services Center at 1430 DeKalb Street. Councilman Marlon Millner expressed a hope that more residents would turn out to engage in the process at next Thursday's meeting.

"I'm very concerned about the low turnout tonight given the importance of the search process is to the community," Millner said, according to the Herald. "I hope the next meeting at the Human Services building will be full."
