Rumors of West Norriton Opening Markley Pool 'Definitely Not True'

When the West Norriton Board of Commissioners voted to deny a zoning hearing request by the to , it put owner Scott Markley in a tough spot.

Markley had entered into an agreement of sale with the . The Y had on the property, but need 26 acres to be rezoned from residential to recreational before the construction could begin. in the neighborhoods around the property led to a fierce battle which was settled when the board of in the case. With their plans dashed, the Y and Markley cancelled their agreement and now the once vibrant Markley Farms Swim & Tennis Club sits silent.

According to Barbara Koch-Santoro, Director of Member Services for the Freedom Valley YMCA, the Y had planned on opening and operating the swim club for the summer while plans for its new facility were being carried out. Now the Y is focusing on finding a new location.

Meanwhile Markley reportedly still hopes to find someone to run the swim club. Rumors had spread that the West Norriton might open the club themselves and run it as part of the Parks & Recreation Department. Parks & Rec Director Jon Dzedzy says that's not in the cards.

"It's definitely not true," said Dzedzy. "We just don't have the capability or the resources."

Acting Township Manager Joseph Hein confirmed the township had no plans to get involved in running the Markley Farms Swim & Tennis Club.
