NORRISTOWN, PA — One of two Pennsylvania State Police troopers who died Monday morning in a tragic accident along Interstate 95 was the son of a sheriff's deputy in Montgomery County, as well as being fire chief of a suburban Montgomery County volunteer fire department.

Branden Sisca, 29, who was killed in a crash along with fellow Trooper Martin Mack, III, 33, and an unidentified civilian, is the son of Craig Sisca, a 10-year member of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, according to Montgomery County Sheriff Sean Kilkenny.

Branden Sisca was also fire chief of the Trappe Fire Company No. 1 in the Borough of Trappe in central Montgomery County.

Kilkenny released a statement early Monday afternoon offering his "deepest and most sincere condolences" to the families of the two fallen state troopers and the civilian who were fatally struck on southbound I-95 in Philadelphia a little before 1 a.m.

The troopers had been attempting to help the pedestrian as he walked along the highway, and all three were struck by a vehicle as it sped by the scene.

Kilkenny said the tragedy hits especially close to home in Montgomery County, as Sisca was an extended member of the sheriff's office family by nature of being the son of Craig Sisca.

"Thinking of Deputy Sheriff Craig Sisca, whose son State Trooper Branden Sisca made the ultimate sacrifice for the Commonwealth this morning," Kilkenny said in his statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Sisca family."

Members of the Trappe Fire Company community reacted with sadness at the news of their fire chief being taken at such a young age, and in such a horrific way.

"It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that Trappe Fire Company No. 1 announces the passing of Fire Chief Branden Sisca," the fire company posted on Facebook. "Right now we ask that you give his family and the family at Trappe Fire Company time to process the loss of an incredibly person. Keep all of them in your thoughts and prayers."
