Teen Arrested in Corson Street Melee

Tavon Bridges, 19, of the unit block of Spruce Street, was arrested early Sunday morning following a melee on the 600 block of Corson Street.

A Norristown teen was arrested early Sunday morning, after police allegedly observed him throwing punches in a melee consisting of 20 to 40 people on the 600 block of Corson Street.

Tavon Bridges, 19, of the unit block of Spruce Street, was charged with simple assault, resisting arrest, possession of a small amount of marijuana and disorderly conduct, following his alleged involvement in the fight.

Police were initially dispatched at 12:28 a.m. on Sunday morning, after receiving a report of more than 20 people fighting in the street and throwing bottles. It was the second such call in a 20-minute span, according to the report.

Once on scene, the report estimates that between 20 to 40 people were fighting in the road, throwing punches and pushing one another into parked vehicles. As police repeatedly gave commands to stop, one person – identified as Bridges – continued to throw punches, according to the report.

Upon seeing the police presence, the group began to flee, police said. Bridges was ordered to stop, but when he did not, an officer drew his Taser and fired at Bridges, striking him in the left palm and left leg, the report states. He was then taken into custody, where police also found him to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana, according to the report.

Following the arrest, police attempted to make contact with the victims of the melee, but everyone they spoke with either denied involvement, or would not cooperate, police said.
