Utility Work on Markley Street Improvement Begins Monday

Crews will be working to remove and relocate utility poles and lines between Elm Street and Johnson Highway.

Construction work on Markley Street continues on Monday as crews remove and relocate utility poles and lines between Elm Street and Johnson Highway. According to PennDOT, utility crews will be working between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. through May and drivers should expect lane closures and delays when traveling on Markley Street during those times. Residents should also expect parking restrictions.

The work is part of the Markley Street Improvement Project, $20.8 million project to rebuild and improve Markley Street between Main Street and Johnson Highway, as well as a half-mile stretch of Johnson Highway between Markley and DeKalb streets.

According to PennDOT, the entire project involves rebuilding Markley Street to include a center lane for left turns, recessed parking bays, more trees and street lights and an off-street parking lot at Harding Boulevard near the Norristown Food Mart. The project will also include upgraded traffic signals and new curb ramps.
