Casino Saves Norristown Fireworks with $8K Check
The annual fireworks were canceled until the Valley Forge Casino Resort offered a donation.

The Valley Forge Casino Resort presented a check to Norristown Parks and Recreation Thursday, providing funds necessary for a fireworks display during the borough’s Independence Day celebration at Elmwood Park.
At a press conference at the Norristown bandshell on Thursday, Valley Forge Casino officials presented the check, which will make the fireworks possible, due to a tightened budget and a lack of donations from the community.

“Our hearts went out to the community,” said Valley Forge Casino Resort Executive Director of Marketing Jennifer Reese. “Our employees live and reside in the area, and not being able to grab your kid and see the fireworks on the fourth of July, it really struck a chord in all of us, so we really felt compelled to get involve.”
Also at the check presentation were VFCR Vice President of Sales and Marketing P.J. Gonzales, and VFCR CEO Michael Bowman. Norristown July 4th Committee co-chairs Bill Pichta and Sandra Grubb were also at the presentation.

The fireworks will cap off a full day of celebrating, including a 5K run beginning at Norristown High School, an Independence Day Parade through the borough, and activities in the bandshell area, including train rides, moon bounces, face painting, clowns, arts and crafts, and a British Invasion tribute concert beginning at 6 p.m.
