Voters by the Numbers

With elections less than a week away, Montgomery County has released the numbers on registered voters and their political affiliations countywide.

Of the 532,784 voters registered in Montgomery County, 17,373 live right here in Norristown. The bulk of those voters are registered as either Democrat or Republican (with a heavy slant to the Democratic side) but there are quite a few voters registered to other parties.

Here's a breakdown of Norristown voters' political affiliations:

• Democratic – 11,432
• Republican –3,630
• Non-Partisan – 1,153
• No Affiliation – 840
• Independent – 173
• Libertarian – 82
• Green – 43
• Constitutional – 8
• Reform – 4
• American Independent – 1
• Consumer – 1
• Independence – 1
• Liberal – 1
• No Party – 1
• Patriot – 1
• Socialist – 1
• Unknown – 1

Some other noteworthy pieces of information from the list includes:

• There are only two voters registered to the Tea Party (in New Hanover, Pa.) and one Tea Party Conservative (in Pottstown.)
• There is one die-hard Steelers' fan in Royersford’s Ward 2 registered to the Go Steelers Party.
• Four voters tapped into their inner nerds and registered in the Adarian Party in the county. What’s an Adarian? It’s someone from Planet Adari of the Inner Rim Territories of the Galactic Empire. Yes, four people really love “Star Wars.” One of them lives in Lansdale; another in Rockledge Borough; a third is registered in Abington; and the fourth in Upper Gwynedd.

So, what other minor parties are represented in Montgomery County?

• The Whig Party still exists, at least for one person in Towamencin. The same goes for the Modern Whig Party, which has a registered voter in Cheltenham.
• There is one registered Anarchist in Lower Merion.
• There is one registered Atheist in Pennsburg.
• There are 11 registered Communists. One in Lansdale Borough and another in Hatfield. Two are registered in North Wales, another in Pottstown and yet another in Telford.
• There are also 23 registered Socialists, and two registered under Socialist Party USA. Both of them are registered in Abington.
• Abington can also claim one person registered in the Working Families Party.
• One person is registered in the Christian Party in Lower Moreland.
• One person is on the fence, so they registered Undecided.
• Six are registered Unknown.
• There are 35 registered in the Patriot Party.
• The third highest registered party in the county is Non-Partisan with 42,535. No Affiliation falls in fourth at 24,585.
• The Green Party in the county accounts for 986 voters. There’s more Libertarians than Green, at 2,876, but more Independent voters at 5,948.
• The Reform Party comes in at 56 voters. The Constitutional Party accounts for 170 voters.
• In the county, 246 voters have no party at all.
