Zoning Board Considering Variances for DeKalb Street Development

According to The Times Herald, Malvern-based Progressive Housing Ventures (PHV) went before the Zoning Hearing Board Tuesday night to request zoning variances for use, area and height restrictions for a proposed 24-unit townhouse development planned for 1202 DeKalb Street. A PHV representative reportedly told the board that variances were needed for the project to be financially viable.

Norristown council sent solicitor Sean Kilkenny to support the requests, though councilwoman Linda Christian reportedly objected to the variances.

"The change proposed is detrimental to DeKalb Street," Christian said, according to the Herald. "Putting rowhomes on the street will encourage other developers to build similar projects."

The spot is located in Norristown newly-minted Health Care Zone.

The Zoning Hearing Board reportedly decided to consider the matter and render a decision within 45 days.
