Coplay Creek Road Residents Want 35-mph Speed Limit Lowered

Coplay Creek Road residents present a signed petition to North Whitehall Board of Supervisors to lower 35-mph speed limit.

Coplay Creek Road residents say motorists drive too fast on their street and they want North Whitehall Township officials to do something about it.

Kathi Smoll presented a petition signed by 50 residents to the board of commissioners at its Monday meeting that asked the township to lower the 35 mph speed limit.

"I've lived there for 33 years and it's just gotten ridiculous. They fly on that road," Smoll said. "It's dangerous for people, their kids and pets."

Smoll said the speed limit should be lowered on Coplay Creek Road from Coffeetown to Bellview roads. She said she can no longer take morning walks on the residential road.

Board Chairman Ron Heintzelman said the road has gotten more traffic recently because of the Route 309 reconstruction project.
