Forks Chooses Leaves over Branches
The Forks Township yard waste drop-off site at 1051 Frost Hollow Road will be open Saturday.

After the freak , homeowners had both branches and leaves to collect. But had to choose one or the other.
“We don’t have the manpower to do leaf and curbside brush collection at the same time,” said Public Works Director Mark Roberts at .
He said it will take six public works staff, five days a week until the second week in December to collect all the township’s fallen leaves. And the leaves were the priority because if they were left on the ground through winter the leaves become a safety hazard.

“That’s why we left the yard open,” he said.
The at 1051 Frost Hollow Road has been open extended hours, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday for residents to drop their branches and limbs from storm damage. The garage is also open this Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon.

The township had tried to do curbside pickup after a storm a couple years ago, Roberts said, and had calculated it would take two weeks, but it took two months.
“People brought everything from their backyards that had been building up for years, not just what came down from the storm,” he said.
Leaf collection continues using vacuum machines and bagged leaves will not be picked up. Collection will continue until Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 3 p.m., when trucks are fitted with snow removal equipment.
