Meco Road and Sullivan Trail Traffic Signal One Step Closer to Installation

Forks Township Supervisors authorize advertisement for installation

There was a lot to discuss at the recent Forks Township Board of Supervisors meeting. Here are a few highlights:

Drivers who have expressed concern over the lack of a traffic signal at the intersection of Meco Road and Sullivan Trail will finally get their wish granted. Supervisors have authorized advertisements to go out for the signal installation. The hope is to have the project awarded by the end of April.

The township has also been looking into webcasting supervisor meetings. Supervisor Erik Chuss believes it is unlike that the township will go for webcasting.

“Most people don’t watch the meeting live and they are very costly,” he said.

Estimates for the work from the current website provider, New Arrival Studios of Bethlehem are between $2,500 or $4,500. Supervisors could consider two options, audio recording the meetings only or videotaping the meetings and then posting them on the municipal website the next day.

According to Supervisor David Billings, the township currently has analogue recording devices and would have to upgrade to a digital audio system. Cost estimates for an upgrade are between $14,000 and $15,000.

Chuss has also proposed that supervisors consider purchasing netbooks (laptop computers) for the Planning Commission. Estimates are currently being sought and should be available by the end of the month. Supervisors have also requested an explanation from the commission on why the netbooks are needed.
