New Window Permit set at $35

Palmer Township sets a new Unified Fee Schedule for 2012.

accepted a new Unified Fee Schedule for the township Monday night after one item was adjusted -- the cost of a permit to replace windows.

The original schedule called for a permit charge of $10 per window, but supervisors thought that was too expensive.

“That could cost $200 for a house with 20 windows,” said Supervisor Robert A. Lammi.

said Northampton County requires that records of inspections be kept for property assessments. And a code enforcement officer must inspect the new windows for their “R-value,” a measurement of how well a window insulates a home.

Supervisor Chairman David Colver wanted to make sure the fee at least covered the cost of that inspection.

They settled on a $35 flat fee.

The new fee scheduled will be incorporated into a proposed 2012 budget, which will be adopted later in the year.
