Sullivan Trail and Meco Road Traffic Signal Gets Green Light
Bid awarded to Easton contractor

It’s been nearly seven years, but finally the proposed traffic signal at the intersection of Sullivan Trail and Meco Road in Forks Township will soon be a reality.
Last week, the township Board of Supervisors unanimously approved hiring Lehigh Valley Site Contractors of Easton to place the light at the intersection.
“This has been a long time coming,” said Supervisor Erik Chuss.

“This is probably the single most important traffic signal in town,” said Supervisor C. David Howell.
Residents had complained for years about the need for a traffic light at the busy intersection. And the state Department of Transportation delayed approval on several occasions.
The township received four proposals for the project, ranging from $1.4 million to $840,000, according to Township Engineer Scott Muller. Lehigh Valley Site Contractors will do the work for $840,000.

The work will be paid for in part through an interfund loan of $533,000. Funds from the township’s sewer capital fund will be transferred to the traffic study fund for the project. The remaining $307,000 needed for the project is already in the traffic study fund.
