Post a picture, a poem or a comment here about the soldiers who gave their lives in service to our country.
Originally known as Decoration Day, Memorial originated in the years following the Civil War, but did not become an official federal holiday until 1971.
Memorial Day Monday is also the unofficial start of summer; and beyond picnics and barbeques, Americans observe the holiday by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding parades in honor of those who lost their lives in service to the country.
