Work to Replace Roof at Easton Area High School Approved

Replacement of majority of roof to begin this summer.

Work to replace the 30-plus year old roof at Easton Area High School could begin this summer.

On Tuesday, the Board of Education voted unanimously in favor of allowing D’Huy Engineering to oversee the replacement of the roof at the school. The company will come up with plans for the entire project. That includes phase one of the project that will replace 50,000 square feet of the roof. That portion of the project is expected to cost $81,250 and work will be done this summer.

The entire 110,000 square foot roof replacement project is expected to cost $1.4 million.  Work will be performed in three phases during the summer months. The entire project is expected to replace the roof and flashing, demolish two abandoned chimneys and other repairs.

Replacement of the roof has been in the works since 2010. A facilities study performed on district schools in 2009 suggested that the roof at the high school be replaced due to its age.
