  1. 20,000 illegal evictions take place every year in Philadelphia, according to a survey of renters in the city. Community Legal Services and the Housing Initiative at Penn released the data, which represents about 7 percent of all renters in Philadelphia. Illegal evictions occur when a landlord forces a tenant out by changing locks, shutting off utilities, harassment, or other tactics. Advocates say that the data on the scope of Philadelphia's illegal eviction problem is the first step to presenting a solution. (WHYY)
  2. It has the funding and the plan to be implemented, but can it work? The City of Philadelphia's anti-violence plan includes funds for policing, safe spaces for kids, and improvements to the environment. According to advocates of the plan, it will work if it is strongly implemented. According to City Councilmember Kenyatta Johnson, the plan is not an "overnight solution," and will require long-term dedication. (The Philadelphia Tribune)
  3. An off-duty police officer is dead after a car crash just blocks from his home. According to police, the officer had just gotten off work before the two-car crash. The crash occurred at Bustleton Avenue and Rennard Street in Somerton. The crash happened just before midnight on Thursday. (NBC 10 Philadelphia)
