- The University City Townhomes in West Philadelphia will require the inclusion of affordable housing in future developments, effective immediately. City Council recently approved legislation mandating 20 percent of housing in the development to be offered to those below the median income. Last year, the owners of the townhomes declined to renew their contract with Housing and Urban Development and instead sold the property — a move that would have pushed out affordable renters had it not been for the legislation. - A 17-year-old boy has succumbed to his injuries after being shot in a home in East Germantown Saturday evening. Though initial reports indicated the shot was self-inflicted, Philadelphia police reported a 9-year-old child in the home fired the gun. The incident remains under investigation. (CBS Philly)
- A proposed ordinance could give Philadelphia's public schools all-new water filtration systems by June 2025. New legislation introduced by City Councilmember Helen Gym would require all facilities operated by the school district to install point-of-use, modern water filtration systems, effectively eliminating lead from the city's school systems. Said Gym, "The only safe amount of lead in our schoolkids' water is zero — and this legislation will make that a reality."(PhillyVoice.com)
