Here are the top three stories today in Philadelphia:
- American Airlines canceled over 1,800 flights going out of Philadelphia in September and October. The 9 percent reduction in flights is the largest cut American is making across the country and due in large part to the labor shortage. American Airlines is Philadelphia's largest airline. Along with lacking crew for flights, shortages of pilots and mechanics are worsened by the public's current demand for travel. (Patch)
- The Spring Garden Street Greenway is getting a $1 million grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for creating a walkable and bikeable route across the city. The proposed construction would link the Schuylkill River Trail to the Delaware River Trail as well as the East Coast Greenway, SEPTA stations, businesses, and schools. The Greenway connects around 25 cities and 450 communities. DCNRโs $1 million commitment gained $2.1 million from the William Penn Foundation, $1.4 million from the city, and $500,000 from PennDOT. (CBS Philly)
- A suspect is in custody in connection with a Philadelphia shooting that injured a 10-month-old baby over the weekend. Santos Diaz, 45, is expected to face formal charges for the shooting, which occurred around 10:40 a.m. on the 2000 block of Ontario Street. After an argument, Santos apparently fired off four shots at a family, hitting the baby in the hand and a 17-year-old boy on the leg. Both children are recovering well. (FOX 29 Philadelphia)
