  1. A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for blowing up an ATM during unrest in the city following the 2020 murder of George Floyd. Prosecutors say 26-year-old David Elmakayes used an explosive device to blow up the ATM on East Westmoreland Street and was arrested with three more explosive devices and an array of firearms in his possession. Elmakayes's sentence also includes three years of supervised release. (CBS Philly)
  2. The City of Philadelphia held a naturalization ceremony yesterday in honor of Flag Day. During the event, 13 people from around the world were sworn in as American citizens at the National Constitution Center. Pennsylvania is currently the only U.S. state that recognizes Flag Day as a legal holiday. (CBS Philly)
  3. A local chef was named Best Chef in the Mid-Atlantic during the 2022 James Beard Awards in Chicago. Cristina Martinez of South Philly Barbacoa took home the prize, making her the only nominated chef from Philadelphia to take home an award during this year's event. Martinez was also one of several chefs chosen to serve tastings after the ceremony at Chicago's Union Station. (Philadelphia Patch)

  • The historic Henry O. Tanner House is in immediate need of support to stabilize, repair, and restore the family home of the internationally-renowned artist. Through the end of June, the museum store at the Philadelphia Museum of Art will donate 20 percent of profits from all sales of "The Annunciation" to the Friends of the Tanner House.
