Here are the top three stories today in Philadelphia:
- A suspect who is accused of carjacking two different drivers in the past week was taken into custody after being chased down by police. On Tuesday evening, police responded to a call when a man reported that he spotted his stolen Mercedes-Benz. Police chased the suspect until he crash into a parked vehicle and then arrested the man. (WPVI-TV)
- A Temple University Hospital doctor is making it her mission to raise awareness of heart disease's impact on Black Americans. Dr. Deborah Crabbe is spreading the word through interviews and patient conversations about how Black Americans are disproportionately affected by heart disease. Crabbe says on average African Americans are 30% more likely to die from heart disease than white men and women. (CBS Philly)
- A water main that has broken in the Kingsessing area of Philadelphia has caused certain roads to become flooded. On Wednesday morning, the fire department responded to a call that a 48-inch transmission water main had broken at the intersection of 56th Street and Springfield Avenue. The water main is one of the largest in the Philadelphia area and the Philadelphia Water Department is currently working to shut it down entirely in order to repair it. The cause of the water main break is still under investigation. (WPVI-TV)
