Here are the top three stories today in Philadelphia:
- Two community summer events have been canceled due to the rise in gun violence in Philadelphia. Additionally, the city's annual Summer Event Series which usually runs through Aug. 31, has been canceled. (The Philadelphia Tribune)
- According to doctors, there's been a massive increase in vasectomies for birth control reasons since the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. According to Google statistics, searches for the term "vasectomy" peaked the day after the ruling. Doctors in Philadelphia are confirming the suspicion that more men are seeking vasectomies for the purposes of birth control. Click the link to see a video on the subject. (CBS Philly)
- Four teens were shot in an apartment on Thursday morning. According to police, a 16-year-old girl, two 15-year-old boys, and a 14-year-old girl were all victims of gunshot wounds in the shooting at the Spring Garden Apartments at 7th and Wallace Streets. The shooting happened just before 2:00 a.m. While two of the teens were shot in the face, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said that all four are expected to survive.
