1 Dead In Interstate 76 Crash In Philadelphia: State Police

An 83-year-old Philadelphia man died after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 76 west in Philadelphia Monday morning, authorities said.

PHILADELPHIA — The crash on Interstate 76 west in Philadelphia Monday morning has left one person dead, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

The crash happened at about 5:30 a.m. I-76 west just after the Vare Avenue/Mifflin Street exit.

According to police, the striking vehicle's driver was heading to work when they hit John White, 83, of Philadelphia, with their vehicle.

Police said White was walking or running across the highway in front of oncoming traffic before he was fatally struck.

White died as a result of his injuries, police said.

The striking driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Lanes on the highway were closed for about three hours as emergency crews responded.
