- The historic Black Doctorsโ Row has received a first-of-its-kind honor from the Philadelphia Historical Commission. The Christian Street Historic District has been changed to the Christian Street Black Doctors' Row Historical District after many passionate pleas from locals. This designation is the first in the city to recognize the historical contributions of Black Philadelphians, although more of its kind may occur under this precedent. (WHYY)
- Local police are searching for the driver of a blue Ford F-150 in connection with a hit-and-run that left an 11-year-old in critical condition. After being struck around Girard and Belmont, the child was reportedly rushed to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in extremely critical condition. Philadelphia Chief Inspector Scott Small said, "He was hit with such force his body was launched 50 feet where he landed on Girard Avenue." No one has come forward with any information on the incident. (CBS Philly)
- On a related note, Philadelphia police are cracking down on aggressive driving. Philadelphia Police and Pennsylvania State Police are teaming up to reduce the number of crashes, injuries, and fatalities. The initiative, which runs through Aug. 21, will focus on unsafe behaviors, like running red lights or tailgating. (Philadelphia Patch)
