Here are the top three stories in Philadelphia today:
- Andrew Dickson, who was found in possession of over 78,000 pornographic images of children, was sentenced to 20 years in prison. In 2015, the FBI infiltrated a child exploitation website on the dark web and identified Dickson as a member. The investigation showed that Dickson had also produced and created his own child pornography by paying for and recording online live-streaming shows of children being harmed. Police estimate that the 58-year-old amassed the pornographic materials over the course of 15 years. (Patch)
- Lia Thomas, a University of Pennsylvania swimmer who was the first transgender athlete to win an NCAA swimming championship, has been nominated for the NCAA's Woman of the Year award. In March, Thomas won a Division I title after finishing first in the women's 500-yard freestyle event, recording the fastest time of the NCAA season. During a May appearance on "Good Morning America," Thomas said, "Trans women are not a threat to women's sports." Established in 1991, the Woman Of The Year Award recognizes female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, and their community. (Philadelphia Patch)
- Police are searching for a suspect in a NASA sweatshirt in connection with a sexual assault at gunpoint in a SEPTA subway station. Officials have described the offender as a 5-foot-6, light-skinned male in his 20s riding a green bicycle. Police say he raped a woman at gunpoint on a bench at the SEPTA subway station at Broad Street and Snyder Avenue around 4:45 a.m. on Monday. Officers say the suspect and the victim's boyfriend exchanged a few brief words before the suspect returned to rape the woman, threatening her boyfriend not to intervene. (CBS Philly)
