Here are the top 3 stories in Philadelphia today:

  1. A man is dead after being shot 13 times in North Philadelphia. According to police, the shooting happened around 3:00 p.m. in the 2700 block of North Broad Street. Reportedly, the man was in his 30s or 40s and was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where he died. One person is in custody. (WPVI-TV)
  2. Philadelphia's new Director of Sustainability has been appointed. Saleem Chapman previously served as Deputy Director of the Office of Sustainability for the past three years. He was also instrumental in the development of the city's first Environmental Justice Advisory Commission. Chapman succeeds Christine Knapp, who stepped down on Jul. 7. Chapman will take the reins beginning in September. (AL DIA News)
  3. There's a new interactive experience at the Philly Zoo. The giraffe exhibit, which first opened on Jul. 7, will give guests the opportunity to feed one of the world's tallest land animals. For just $6 (or $5 for members), you'll receive a piece of "browse" for the giraffes to enjoy. It's a great way to get up close and personal with the wildlife, just watch out for those tongues!
