Man Shot At Cops, Homeowner After Trying To Steal Package: Philly Police

PHILADELPHIA — A reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of a man authorities said fired a gun at Philadelphia Police officers over the weekend.

According to police, the man seen above is wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred Sunday.

At about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, police were called to the 4900 block of D Street for a report of a person with a weapon among a crowd. While there, officers heard gunshots coming nearby on the 400 block of East Rockland Street and headed toward the noise.

There, officers saw a man running, and police said the man fired a gun toward the officers, which prompted one officer to return fire several times. The suspect was not apprehended.

Investigators learned a 50-year-old man living on East Rockland Street was monitoring his security cameras when he saw a man trying to steal a package from his front steps. He went outside while armed with a handgun and confronted the suspect, during which the resident fired his gun at the ground, prompting the suspect to run off, police said.

As he ran off, the suspect fired several rounds at the resident, according to authorities.

Investigators found a .40 caliber handgun and a jacket believed to belong to the suspect on the 400 block of Rockland Street, and noted a vehicle parked on the north side of the street was hit by gunfire.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned Hispanic man with a stocky build and possibly a goatee. He was wearing a brown coat, black pants, and gray and light gray sneakers.

Both officers involved in the incident were equipped with body-worn cameras that were activated during the encounter. In accordance with standard department protocol, the officer who fired their weapon has been placed on administrative duty.
