  1. Council Member and Majority Leader Cherelle L. Parker, President of Policy Solutions at Reinvestment Fund Ira Goldstein, and the Philadelphia Home Appraisal Bias Task Force have issued their final report after over a year of work. Back in February, Parker and Goldstein wrote an op-ed for WHYY citing home appraisals as part of America's racial wealth gap. The report recommended local, state, and national interventions in the home appraisal processes.
Goldstein said, "There is a total lack of transparency into home appraisals. Philadelphia will work to improve data access on appraisals locally, and will support a federal effort to create a national public reporting process.โ€ (The Philadelphia Tribune)
  2. PECO green initiatives aim to help save the environment and money for their customers. The PECO building has a 45,000-square-foot green roof as part of its "Path to Clean" program. Other aspects of the program include replacing PECO vehicles with hybrid and electric cars as well as making their buildings as eco-friendly as possible. PECO also has a "ReLeaf" program to re-plant a tree whenever they cut one down. (NBC 10 Philadelphia)
  3. The Inglis Foundation is selling its West Philly nursing home to a for-profit based in New Jersey. The company, which already owns 10 facilities in West Philly, acquired the 252-bed facility dating back to 1877. Many nonprofits are selling their nursing homes because of the financial pressures and failure to align with their missions. (MSN)
