PECO Says Damage To Gas Main That Forced I-95 Closure In Philadelphia Appears To Be "Purposeful"

A portion of I-95 that stretches from Northeast Philadelphia to Bucks County was closed for hours on Easter Sunday as crews worked to repair a damaged 4-inch high-pressure natural gas main, PECO said on Monday. According to PECO, the damage appears to be a "purposeful attempt to cut" the gas pipe.

PECO said they were notified about a natural gas odor on Sunday in the area of 895 Tennis Avenue in Bensalem, Bucks County, at around 6:45 p.m. Crews immediately responded to the scene to repair the damaged gas main.

While PECO crews worked to repair the damage, Pennsylvania State Police shut down I-95 from Exit 35 (Woodhaven Road) in Bensalem and Exit 32 (Academy Road and Linden Avenue) in Northeast Philly for hours. The highway fully reopened at around 10 p.m. on Sunday.
