Pennsylvanian Families Protest Rep. Perry’s Vote to Raise Costs and Pollute More

Community members confronted Representative Scott Perry (PA-10) over his vote for Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill"

Harrisburg, PA – On Tuesday, America Saves Money, the Climate Action Campaign, Sierra Club, Pennsylvania State Education Association, and local officials such as State Representative Justin Fleming joined concerned Pennsylvanian voters outside Representative Scott Perry’s (PA-10) district office to demand he take accountability for the devastating impacts his support of Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” will have on his constituents.

During a time when most families are struggling to make ends meet, the bill is expected to raise utility costs for the average Pennsylvania household by $190, cause thousands of people to lose Medicaid coverage, reduce access to food assistance programs like SNAP, and eliminate 23,000 jobs in the state.

On top of that, the bill is expected to increase pollution at a time when Pennsylvania communities are already struggling with poor air quality. The Harrisburg-York-Lebanon metro area was ranked as the third worst for ozone pollution in the Mid-Atlantic, earning a “D” grade. The “Big Beautiful Bill” would make matters worse by driving up pollution from power plants and vehicles. In Pennsylvania alone, emissions are projected to rise by more than 11 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent by 2035, meaning more smog, more asthma attacks, and at least 17 additional premature deaths in the state every year by 2035.

The event provided a direct opportunity for everyday Pennsylvanians to voice their concerns about these impacts, with local organizations and State Representative Justin Fleming joining constituents to express their opposition to the bill. They demanded Rep. Perry take accountability for its role in triggering higher energy bills, dirtier air, weaker healthcare, and causing more harm to everyday Pennsylvanians.
