Philly Cop Hurt In 2019 Crash Dies
Officer Andy Chan was severely hurt in a 2019 crash. The former highway patrol officer is survived by his wife and three children.
PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia Police officer who was severely hurt in a 2019 crash has died.
The Philadelphia Police Department said retired Officer Andy Chan has died.
"Officer Chan was more than a colleague - he was a presence," the department said on social media. "Whether he was unflinchingly confronting danger, supporting a critical incident, or simply offering a kind word in passing, Andy embodied the very best of what it means to serve. He was known throughout the Department and across the city not only for his skill and professionalism, but for the infectious energy and dedication that he brought to every assignment."

Chan was struck riding his motorcycle on the 3100 block of Rhawn Street at about 5:45 p.m. Jan. 3, 2019.
He was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital with significant head injuries, police said.

The driver who struck him remained on scene, police said.
Chan is survived by his wife and three children.
"His loss is felt deeply by all who knew him," the Philadelphia FOP Lodge #5 said in a social media post. "We ask that you hold his wife, children, loved ones, friends, and his Brothers and Sisters in the Police Department in your prayers during this difficult time."
