Police Fatally Shoot Man Near Philly International Airport
A man walking in the middle of a road leading to the airport's entrance was fatally shot after struggling with police Monday, police said.
PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia Police shot and killed a man early Monday morning near the Philadelphia International Airport, according to police.
The incident occurred at about 1:06 a.m. on the South I95 ramp (1 PIA Way).
A Philadelphia Police officer was in a marked patrol vehicle and in uniform when he found a 36-year-old man on the ramp.

The man told the officer he had been stabbed, which led the officer to request an ambulance and additional officers to respond.
Police said while waiting for backup and medics, the officer and the man got into an altercation.

The officer tried to subdue the man using a taser, but the taser was ineffective in doing so, police said.
Another officer showed up, and also tried to use a taser to subdue the man, but was also unsuccessful, police said.
Eventually, the second officer fired his weapon at the man multiple times, striking the man.
Medics pronounced the man dead at 1:25 a.m.
The officer who shot the man is a 53-year-old, 28-year veteran of the department who is assigned to the Airport Unit. He has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the Internal Affairs and Officer-Involved Shooting Investigations. An investigation is also underway with the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office.
Neither officer was equipped with body worn cameras.
