See Road Closures, Parking Restrictions For Philly Marathon Weekend

PHILADELPHIA — The 2025 Philadelphia Marathon Weekend is nearly here.

Runners will descend on Philadelphia Friday through Sunday to partificpate in the annual event, which features an 8K race, half marathon race, full marathon race, and a kids run.

Due to the weekend's events, streets will be closed in many parts of the city Friday to Sunday. Traffic delays should be expected and drivers are advised to use alternative routes, avoid areas along the racecourse, allow for extra travel time, and use caution during the race weekend.

Due to enhanced security around The Benjamin Franklin Parkway, parking and traffic regulations will be strictly enforced. Street closures will be implemented on a rolling basis and lifted as runners go by, and roads are serviced. Officials urge motorists to refrain from double parking, which creates congestion, limits traffic flow, and is illegal.

Roadways and areas that will be impacted include:

• The Benjamin Franklin Parkway will be closed from Friday through Sunday.
• The I-676 off-ramp at 22nd Street (westbound) will be closed on Saturday and Sunday at 4 a.m. for event security preparation. Ramps at 15th and Broad Streets may also close if needed.
• Eastbound I-76 @ Spring Garden Street (top of the ramp) at 4 a.m. No traffic will be permitted into Center City; traffic for the Art Museum & the Art Museum garage is allowed on Saturday and Sunday.
• Eastbound Winter Street @ 23rd Street (just off of eastbound I-676) at 2 a.m. will be closed.
• Westbound I-76 @ Girard Avenue (Exit #342) will be closed beginning at 6 a.m.
• Citywide along the 13.1-mile Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon route on Saturday. The full route can be viewed online.
• Citywide along the 26.2-mile route of the AACR Philadelphia Marathon on Sunday. The full route can be viewed online.

Road Closures and Parking Restrictions by Date

Friday

The inner-drive lanes (both directions) of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway will be closed from 9:30 a.m. until 2:45 p.m. on Friday. At 2:45 p.m., outbound lanes will be opened for the afternoon rush hour. After evening rush hour, all inner lanes (inbound and outbound) from Binswanger Triangle to 20th Street will remain closed. All lanes of Benjamin Franklin Parkway will be closed after the evening rush on Friday between 22nd Street and Eakins Oval. Kelly Drive inbound closed at 25th Street, with local traffic permitted to Anne d’Harnoncourt Drive. Inbound traffic on Spring Garden Street Bridge and MLK Drive to be detoured onto 24th Street. Spring Garden Street to be closed between Benjamin Franklin Parkway and Pennsylvania Avenue. Cross traffic will be permitted on 22nd and 21st Streets.

Saturday

As part of enhanced security for the Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon, City of Philadelphia “No Parking” regulations will be strictly enforced. All vehicles on the race route will be relocated, beginning at 1 a.m. on Saturday. Street closures will be in effect for the Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon and the Rothman Orthopaedics 8K on Saturday, from 2 a.m. until 3 p.m., along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway between 20th and 25th Streets, on Kelly Drive, and on numerous other roads in Center City (see the complete list below). Prior to Saturday, “No Parking” signs will be posted in the Parkway area and along the racecourse. On Saturday, the vicinity near 18th Street and the Parkway, and the Logan Circle area will be closed to vehicular traffic until approximately 11:30 a.m.

The following streets will remain closed all day on Saturday through approximately 5 p.m. on Sunday:

• All lanes of Benjamin Franklin between 22nd Street and Eakins Oval.
• Kelly Drive inbound closed at 25th Street, with local traffic permitted to Anne d’Harnoncourt Drive.
• Inbound traffic on Spring Garden Street Bridge and MLK Drive detoured onto 24th Street.
• Spring Garden Street closed between Benjamin Franklin Parkway and Pennsylvania Avenue.

Local access will be maintained for residents and businesses at traffic control points controlled by the Philadelphia Police Department (PPD).

Access to the Philadelphia Museum of Art during event hours will be maintained via Spring Garden Street (Spring Garden Street Bridge & Spring Garden Street Tunnel) to Anne D’ Harnoncourt Drive.

Motorists and pedestrians can expect delays when trying to crossroads or streets along the racecourse. Police will allow traffic through intersections when possible, depending on the flow of race participants. All streets (with the exception of Eakins Oval and Benjamin Franklin Parkway) are scheduled to be reopened no later than 2 p.m. on Saturday and many roads in Center City will open earlier in the day as they are cleared and serviced.

Sunday

It is expected that the outer lanes of Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Eakins Oval and Kelly Drive will be reopened to vehicular traffic by 5 p.m. on Sunday. All affected roads will be reopened by 8 a.m. on Monday.

SEPTA offers two subway lines, regional rail service to and from the surrounding suburbs, and bus service throughout the city. Below is a summary of SEPTA detours that will be in effect during Marathon Race Weekend. Check the SEPTA website for additional information.

Detours on the routes listed below are scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Select buses will operate on different routes during the Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon and the AACR Philadelphia Marathon. Service is subject to change. • Expo packet pickup scheduling to help participants cut down on wait times during Race Expo hours with live data showing high- and low-volume times.
• Race Weekend push notifications to deliver important weather and safety updates and help manage crowd flow by directing runners to less congested security checkpoints, reducing wait times at the start line.

While cultural institutions along or near The Benjamin Franklin Parkway will experience the greatest impact from the race, they generally will maintain normal weekend hours of operation on Marathon Race Weekend.

Parking may be available at or near cultural institutions, but using public transportation is strongly encouraged. The institutions’ individual websites should be referenced for information on exhibit hours, ticket admission, and parking accommodations.
