PENNSYLVANIA — A cross-country storm could complicate Thanksgiving holiday travel and bring rain to Eastern Pennsylvania mid-week, forecasters say. Some parts of the Northeast could see snowfall as a result of the system.

The storm, which is moving eastward, is expected to arrive to the Philadelphia region by the middle to the end of the week. However, forecasters warn that it could complicate air and road transportation for millions during the busy holiday travel week. A record-breaking 80 million people are expected to travel during the Thanksgiving holiday.

But before the larger system moves through, we can expect a round of rain to arrive Tuesday.

The system is expected to gain strength from Wednesday night to Thursday night as it moves through the eastern United States.

"Significant travel disruptions are anticipated for tens of millions that take to the roads and skies, even in areas where rain and thunderstorms occur instead of snow," according to the latest information from AccuWeather.

However, the exact track and impacts are not yet known and forecasters say there are two scenarios that could play out.

The first scenario is if a weaker storm materializes, it will bring intermittent rain and little to no snow to the Northeast. If a stronger system develops, it could deliver accumulating snow to large parts of the country.

"There are many variables we are still analyzing with this storm with track and intensity being the keys to where the rain and snow line will set up and the amount of snow that will fall in the Midwest and Northeast," AccuWeather Chief On-Air Meteorologist Bernie Rayno said.

Most likely, the Northeast can expect moderate to heavy snowfall over northern New England and the higher elevations in central New England. In Pennsylvania and New York state, accumulating snow may fall in higher elevations.
