EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — Severe storms, which could bring damaging wind gusts and possible tornadoes, are in the forecast for eastern Pennsylvania Thursday. The National Weather Channel has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook, saying the region has an "elevated" risk of severe weather between 2 and 10 p.m.

In addition to the thunderstorms with lightning, the National Weather Service says Philadelphia and its suburbs can expect high wind gusts, "large" hail, isolated tornadoes and flooding.

The severe weather is possible in the afternoon and into the evening, but there is still some uncertainty in the exact timing, the National Weather Service said in a morning update. Check back to Patch to see if additional watches or warnings are issued as the storms approach.

The chance of precipitation is 80 percent, and new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half-inch are possible in the afternoon. At night, additional rainfall of up to a half-inch is possible.

Things will clear out by Friday, when sunshine and a high in the mid-80s is predicted. The sunshine will stick around through Saturday. Temperatures will be pleasant, with a high of 79 expected Saturday around the Philadelphia region.

But thunderstorms could return Sunday. There's currently a 40 percent chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. Sunday.
