  1. Philadelphia's Chinatown has won one development battle: plans for the Vine Street Expressway cap are moving forward. Residents and community members connected to Philly's Chinatown have protested and successfully stopped the building of a federal prison, a casino, and a sports stadium within its bounds. though Chinatown was partially destroyed by the construction of the Vine Street Expressway, city officials are moving towards capping the below-ground-level highway and reconnecting Chinatownโ€™s two sides. Philly's Chinatown and the people who love it are currently protesting a proposed Sixers' arena within view of its famous arch. (Billy Penn)
  2. Philly's Corporation for Aging says its "Heatline" is seeing unprecedented demand. The heatline, launched in mid-July, has answered over 272 calls. It is currently experiencing a 48 percent increase from 2021. The Heatline anticipates a similar increase for next summer. (WHYY)
  3. Gunfire outside a North Philly Popeyes left one dead and two others injured. The shooting occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Monday night. Police say at least two people started shooting at a car outside the restaurant. (CBS Philly)

  • Some Wawas in the city will no longer be open for 24 hours. The company says the closures are temporary and due to low traffic in some overnight hours. (CBS Philly)
