Here are the top three stories in Philadelphia today:

  1. After two years, the Philadelphia Water Department will be shutting the water off for residential customers who haven't paid their bills. Starting today, Jul. 20, service will be shut off for customers if they have unpaid bills over $1,000 and havenโ€™t signed up for assistance or enrolled in a payment plan. Shutoff notices started going out in June and a water department spokesperson, Brian Rademaekers, urges recipients to reach out right away for the next steps with a payment plan or assistance program. (CBS Philly)
  2. A woman has been hospitalized after a hit-and-run driver struck her and her two young nieces in West Philadelphia on Monday night. Just before 10:00 p.m., Zarina Grisby was at a corner store with her three-year-old son, three- and 13-year-old nieces, and a friend. They were crossing the street when the crash occurred. Grisby suffered a severe injury to her leg and was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition, while the two children suffered minor injuries. Police are looking for a dark-colored car, possibly a Nissan, that was last seen traveling on Haverford Avenue. (WPVI-TV)
  3. David Sinopoli, 68-years-old, has been charged with murder in a 1975 killing after authorities pulled DNA from a coffee cup at the Philadelphia International Airport.
19-year-old Lindy Sue Biechler was found dead, having been stabbed multiple times in her Manor Township apartment in December of 1975. The DNA collected from the disposed coffee cup matches semen and blood found at the scene. Sinopoli was charged with criminal homicide, was arraigned, and remanded to Lancaster County Prison without bail. (Philadelphia Patch)
